Sea Turtle Conservation at Jara Beach Resort

At Jara Beach Resort, we believe that beautiful beaches come with a responsibility to protect the wildlife that calls them home. Our coastline is an important natural habitat for sea turtles, and we are committed to supporting their conservation through responsible tourism, environmental awareness and sustainable beach practices. On Tuesday November 3rd 2026, we witnessed our very first sea turtle (Olive-Ridley) hatchling release - pictured below - over 70 baby turtles finding their way home!

Sea turtles face growing threats from coastal development, plastic pollution, accidental capture in fishing nets, egg harvesting and human disturbance. Through greater awareness and responsible action, we believe tourism can be part of the solution rather than the problem. We are proud to have supported Greenfingers in their annual Sea Turtle Forum at Eko Hotel.

We are passionate about demonstrating how hospitality and conservation can work hand in hand. From reducing single-use plastics and keeping our beach clean to promoting responsible lighting and educating guests about marine life, we aim to minimise our environmental impact while encouraging others to do the same.

We also believe our guests have an important role to play. Every visit is an opportunity to learn more about the ocean, appreciate its incredible biodiversity and understand the importance of protecting it for future generations.

Our beach is more than a place to relax. It's a natural habitat worth protecting.

Our Turtle Garden in partnership with Greenfingers can be found next to ZEN, near the Tuck Shop. Home to White-Lipped Mud Turtles and African Sideneck Turtles. Our young guests are invited to join feeding time, daily!

At Jara, we invite you to enjoy the beach, respect its wildlife and help us leave a positive footprint on the coastline we are privileged to call home.
